3/30/25- 83 years since construction began on Bell Bomber Plant in Marietta, GA

in 1942, the Army Air Force began construction on the Bell Bomber plant in Marietta, GA.  This was a major transformation for the otherwise sleepy suburb of Marietta.  This turned 1,600 acres of farmland into a massive production site employing more than 28,000 workers less than two years later.  This site produced B-29s during WWII (seen at right).  It was taken over by Lockheed in 1951, and it has been the home of C-130 production aircraft since 1954.  The C-130 has been in continuous production for more than 70 years.  Considering that the modern era of aviation is only 122 years old, it is a remarkable feat that the C-130 has been in production for the majority of the modern aviation era.
